Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: meter la pata

Introduction: Students received a variety of materials about the Mayan indians and the Popol Vuh. Students were shown a power point about the Mayans and their civilization.

Development: Students were shown a map on which the extension of the Mayan and Aztec civilizations reached, ranging from mid-Mexico to southern Belize and Northern Guatemala.

Conclusion: We read the first paragraph of Chapter 1 of Part 1 of the text. Students were asked to compare this opening to other holy books to see if they understood the connection with either their own religion or other Western religions.

Home assignment: Students were asked to read Chapters 1 and 2 of the text. Students were also asked to continue studying the uses of the preterite and imperfect.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

Introduction: Students completed text, page 14, activities 5 and 6 independently.

Development: The use of both the positive and negative articles using the verb AVOIR and the expression IL Y A were modeled using items in the classroom.

Conclusion: Students demonstrated with their own vocabulary choices how to use the different articles, in both positive and negative sentence constructions. All activities were collected.

Home assignment: Students will read and study up to page 19 for next class.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Introduction: Students received a worksheet asking them to demonstrate the conjugation of both preterite and imperfect verbs in Spanish. This activity was gone over on the board using the document reader.

Development: The class further discussed the uses of these two tenses, how and why they are used.

Conclusion: Students saw another "quick fire" power point testing their vocabulary knowledge of chapter 5A. Students also received a closing activity asking them to complete 10 sentences with vocabulary or language structures from chapter 5A. They worked independently and were able to use either their textbooks or their vocabulary lists to complete the assignment.

Home assignment: Students will complete this worksheet for next class. Students were cautioned to only work alone and not to compare or share answers or materials.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: rester / être sur place

Introduction: Students received a worksheet demonstrating those verbs that can either use AVOIR or ÊTRE in the passé composé. The class discussed the translation of the given sentences and we discussed those reasons why there either was agreement or not of the past participle.

Development: The class continued its discussion of the role of pronominal verbs in the passé composé. They received a worksheet showing the "umbrella" of pronominal verbs and were asked to work in groups to complete the chart, categorizing each type of pronominal verb.

Conclusion: Students took a brief pop quiz testing their knowledge of the role of the passé composé.

Home assignment: Students were asked to continue studying the passé composé and the role of the agreement of the past participle in this tense.
