Students finished watching Chac today. They also discussed fragments of Columbus' diary as well as Fray Bartolomé de las Casas and how it relates to the different culture of the Mayan indians. Students have their test tomorrow.
Periods 2 and 3 - French 2
Today students warmed up with a review of the vocabulary from section A in chapter 1. Students then discussed members of the family and developed their use of this vocabulary with a worksheet. On this activity, they were asked to name several members of a family and describe their relationships. Students finished off class by discussing one's profession. We orally discussed the job vocabulary by using the activity on page 36. Students will study the rest of the vocabulary in the chapter for tomorrow.
Period 5 - Spanish 3
Students warmed up by reading an article about an explosion in Mexico, taken from Univision.com. Through their reading, students identified which verbs are in the preterite and which ones are used in the imperfect. Students also learned about the formation of the preterite of -CAR, -GAR, and -ZAR verbs. Students were provided a variety of contexts in which these verbs are used. To end class, students started text page 251, activity #16. They will complete this for homework.
Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT
Today's phrase of the day was...faire exprès de. Students handed in their home assignments from last evening. They spent the period writing about an unforgettable experience they had in level 1 French back in middle school. Writing on this topic will force them to master the use of the three main past tenses in French: the passé composé, the imparfait, and the plus-que-parfait. Their drafts were collected. Students will participate in peer critiquing activities tomorrow.
