Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: a solas

Students began writing on a topic in which they had to present and defend an opinion to the editor of a paper. Students completed their rough drafts in class and will complete the task tomorrow with peer editing as well as their final draft. Here is the topic at hand:

Tú eres un(a) lector(a) de un periódico local. Habrá un discurso de un político radical en tu esceual. El periódico ha publicado un adelanto del discurso en un artículo. Escribe una carta al editor explicándole que: a) el discurso ofende y b) el político no debe dar el discurso. Da una razón y explica tus sentimientos.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

Students received the poem "Le Corbeau et le Renard". Students read the poem and wrote a paragraph explaining the meaning of it in English. Students then, using colored pencils and markers, illustrated their interpretation of the poem.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Students began class with a warm up on the board...using the irregular preterite tense. Students then completed "Practice" workbook page 104, by completing a short story using vocabulary from chapter 5B. Students then received a brief introduction about the imperfect progressive, and completed text, page 277, activity 18 (orally). Students will continue with their study of the past tense tomorrow.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: avoir lieu / un lieu de culte

Students received a brief packet today on Léopold Sédar Senghor and the négritude movement. Students read about his life and accomplishments, including his rise to political power and eventually his election to president of the republic. Students read the national anthem of Sénégal and we briefly discussed its various elements. We briefly discussed about aspects of life in Sénégal, including Gorée Island, Dakar, and baobob trees. For homework, students are to read the poem Femme noire and to answer the questions that follow.
