We discussed the completed writing and strategies of how to best address a writing prompt of that nature. Students also completed a practice activity on the use of the subjunctive and indicative in context. Students will have a quiz tomorrow.
Periods 2 and 3 - French 2
Students wrote a letter to young Senegalese school children. This was a wonderful activity that not only asked students to practice writing a letter, but implementing the vocabulary and grammatical structures learned in lessons 1 and 2. Students were provided with a variety of ways to address and sign off a letter to friends. All letters were collected and will be sent directly to the school children later this week. Students also received some background information about Sénégal, its capital city, as well as life in this West African nation.
Period 5 - Spanish 3
Students warmed up with an activity from the "Practice" workbook, page 106, Students also received two worksheets practicing the formation and usage of the imperfect progressive with the preterite tense. All answers were gone over on the board. Students will have their unit test on chapters 5A and 5B by the end of next week.
Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT
Phrase of the day: se vouloir + adj.
Students warmed up with a subjunctive activity. Students also talked further about the similarities and differences between several African national anthems. We discussed the poem Femme Noire by Ségnhor. Finally, students viewed a report by Richard Engel of NBC news, in which he travelled to the African nation of Mali. There, he met with and travelled with a group of touareg nomads. The piece lasted about 7 minutes. After, we discussed a bit of the cultural aspects of a nation like Mali. Students have a quiz on the subjunctive tomorrow.
