Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: cumplir con

Introduction: We recapped what happened in chapters 8 and 9.

Development: Students were asked to assign titles to each of the 9 chapters.

Conclusion: After naming the 9 chapters, students made comparisons between the Popol Vuh and some other famous books. Students discussed how they were similar and how they varied.

Home assignment: Students were reminded that their test on Popol Vuh is next Thursday.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

Introduction: Students received 3 additional review worksheets to prepare for Monday's test.

Development: We went through the "Reprise" chapter, and students with any questions or concerns were encouraged to address these during our discussion.

Conclusion: Students had a quick review on the board, of a variety of topics covered in the "Reprise" chapter.

Home assignment: Test on Monday.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Introduction: Students reviewed the preterite and imperfect...general uses and conjugation.

Development: Using the 4-page packet from yesterday, students worked independently to finish up the last two pages. These were discussed and gone over.

Conclusion: Students discussed the differences between "hubo" and "había".

Home assignment: Students were reminded to keep studying chapter 5A.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: Cela me rendrait service si...

Introduction: Students provided personal examples using the phrase of the day.

Development: Students got their first look at the French AP exam. Students also worked to complete "Function Words" series 1. All answers were gone over on the board.

Conclusion: Students were reminded as to the date of the French AP exam, and to come for extra help if they need any regarding either AP exam preparation or general classroom instruction.

Home assignment: Make sure to have textbook for next class.

Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: romper con alguien

Introduction: We briefly discussed what happened in the last two chapters.

Development: We discussed the final two chapters and how they round out the first part of the overall text.

Conclusion: We wrapped up the first part of the Popol Vuh with the question: "What titles can we give to each chapter?"

Home assignment: Make sure that all the questions for each chapter are completed. Test on the Popol Vuh is next Thursday.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

Introduction: Students discussed and went over the completed ALLER worksheet done at home.

Development: Students worked in pairs to complete Activity 8 on page 22. Students also reviewed the use of the stress pronouns.

Conclusion: Students lined up in two rows. With the person across from them, students were given a topic to discuss with their partner. They were asked to begin each response with a stress pronoun.

Home assignment: Continue studying for the upcoming test on "Reprise" on Monday.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Introduction: Students were briefly asked to differentiate between preterite and imperfect.

Development: Students received a four-page packet asking students to look a little deeper in order to determine whether a verb should be conjugated in the preterite or the imperfect tense. We covered the first two pages of this packet. Additionally, three sentence starters were put on the board. In pairs, students came up with different ways to complete these sentence starters using vocabulary from chapter 5A.

Conclusion: Students complete a brief exit pass dealing with the vocabulary from chapter 5A as well as recognition and use of the preterite tense.

Home assignment: Bring the packet back tomorrow.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: pour des prunes / des prunes!

Introduction: Students provided examples of the above expressions in everyday situations.

Development: Students took a quiz on the rules of agreement of the past participle and the passé composé.

Home assignment: Continue examining and studying the rules of past participle agreement.

Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: mimar / consentir / mimado(a) / consentido(a)

Introduction: Students recapped chapters 4 and 5 of the Popol Vuh.

Development: Students began talking about chapters 6 and 7 of the text.

Conclusion: Students discussed why Vucub-Caquiz and his wife died in the text.

Home assignment: Read chapters 8 and 9 for tomorrow. Test on Popol Vuh next Thursday.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

Introduction: Review of -ER verbs and question words.

Development: Worksheet reviewing time, dates, days, and the calendar.

Conclusion: Students received a worksheet to start working on using the verb ALLER.

Home assignment: Complete the ALLER worksheet. Test on Monday on the "Reprise" chapter.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Introduction: Quick-fire vocabulary review.

Development: Students got to go back over the quiz from the other day and make changes on Part 3 only. Students walked around room talking to different partners about disasters and what happened at certain disasters.

Conclusion: Discuss basic differences between preterite and imperfect.

Home assignment: Continue studying chapter 5A.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: C'est un fait. / dire son fait à quelqu'un / en fait / de ce fait

Introduction: Students finished going over the passé composé agreement packet. Students also took Dictée #1, about anti-smoking laws in Québec.

Development: Students received another worksheet asking them to decide at to whether there would be agreement or not of the past participle. All answers were gone over and discussed.

Conclusion: Students briefly wrapped up the discussion of the worksheet to clarify any misconceptions about the agreement of the past participle.

Home assignment: Quiz tomorrow on the agreement of the past participle.

Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: la recta final

Introduction: Students recapped the ending of chapter 3 of the Popol Vuh. We compared the events of this chapter to holy books with which students are familiar.

Development: We discussed chapters 4 and 5, discussed Vucub-Caquix and his family, as well as the hero twins.

Home assignment: Students will read chapters 6 and 7 for next class. Students will read chapters 8 and 9 for Thursday's class. The test on Popol Vuh will take place a week from Thursday, on September 23. Students were also reminded to continue working on the questions for the chapters and have them ready for collection at any time.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

Introduction: Students received a bell-ringer worksheet review on the conjugation of -ER verbs and basic sentence construction. Students worked independently to complete.

Development: Students provided the answers to the first three activities on the sheet on the board. Students also orally reviewed the various question words in French.

Home assignment: Students will complete activities H and I for next class. Students will be tested on the chapter "Reprise" on Monday, September 20. If this date changes, students of course will be made aware.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Introduction: "Writing Audio and Video" workbook, page 94. The class was guided to complete picture 1.

Development: Students worked in pairs in order to complete pictures 2 and 3 by describing catastrophic events and/or weather events using the 5A vocabulary and the preterite. All responses were discussed and some were provided on the board.

Home assignment: Students will continue to study 5A vocabulary and the preterite tense.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: congé / 3 jours de congé / en congé / prendre (donner) du congé / donner son congé

Introduction: Students received a worksheet with 10 sentences. Students were asked to transform these sentences from the present to the passé composé. All answers were discussed.

Development: Students received a 3-page packet in which they were asked to determine the endings of the past participles. We answered up to question 25 and these responses were discussed.

Home assignment: Students will complete the packet for next class.
