Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: constar de

Students received their POPOL VUH projects today. These comic books are due on Wednesday, September 29.

We spent the rest of the class finally introducing students to the format of the AP exam that we hope they will take on May 3, 2011.

Students were asked to bring their textbooks on Monday.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

The quiz was moved to Monday.

Students received a word search and a crossword to practice their vocabulary from lesson 1. Using the workbook packets, students also listened to page 9, activity 2.B. They also completed page 13, activities A.1 and A.2, as well as page 14, activity B.3.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Students warmed up with a crossword using the preterite. These were collected. Students then completed text, page 252, activity #18. These were also collected. Students ended class by completing "Practice" workbook, page 99. These were individually checked over before students departed for the weekend.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

There was no phrase of the day today.

Students received back their writing started from earlier in the week. They concluded the writing process by extending their current versions to one page. These were collected at the end of class. Students were reminded to bring their textbooks back on Monday.

Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

Students took their exams today on the Popol Vuh.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

Students warmed up with text, page 37, activity 7. This was discussed with partners. Students also completed the workbook packet, page 9, the first listening activity. Students created their folders and got their first test back. All folders will be kept locked up in class. Students may view these folders and the contents at any time.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Students started off today by completing a correction activity. All answers were gone over. Students took a pop quiz on lesson 5A today. Students ended class with a reading comprehension activity dealing with how to be safe in a hotel when a fire breaks out.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

Today's phrase of the day was...un drôle de zèbre. Students exchanged their writings with peers in groups of 3. They spent about 15 minutes making suggestions on how to improve their writing. Students will re-write their compositions tomorrow in class taking into account the recommendations made by their classmates today.

Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

Students finished watching Chac today. They also discussed fragments of Columbus' diary as well as Fray Bartolomé de las Casas and how it relates to the different culture of the Mayan indians. Students have their test tomorrow.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

Today students warmed up with a review of the vocabulary from section A in chapter 1. Students then discussed members of the family and developed their use of this vocabulary with a worksheet. On this activity, they were asked to name several members of a family and describe their relationships. Students finished off class by discussing one's profession. We orally discussed the job vocabulary by using the activity on page 36. Students will study the rest of the vocabulary in the chapter for tomorrow.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Students warmed up by reading an article about an explosion in Mexico, taken from Univision.com. Through their reading, students identified which verbs are in the preterite and which ones are used in the imperfect. Students also learned about the formation of the preterite of -CAR, -GAR, and -ZAR verbs. Students were provided a variety of contexts in which these verbs are used. To end class, students started text page 251, activity #16. They will complete this for homework.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

Today's phrase of the day was...faire exprès de. Students handed in their home assignments from last evening. They spent the period writing about an unforgettable experience they had in level 1 French back in middle school. Writing on this topic will force them to master the use of the three main past tenses in French: the passé composé, the imparfait, and the plus-que-parfait. Their drafts were collected. Students will participate in peer critiquing activities tomorrow.

Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

Students continued viewing Chac and will finish it tomorrow. Students will take their test on Thursday.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

Students began looking at chapter 1. We read the introduction and students worked in groups to discuss activity 3 of the chapter. This was gone over orally before class ended. Students were assigned the vocabulary on pages 34, 36 and 37 for tomorrow.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Students received a number of worksheets today having to do with the preterite and the imperfect. These worksheets focused on students practicing the conjugation and usage of these two past tenses. Students homework assignments were collected.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: C'est le comble!

Students took a pop quiz on the use of the passé composé and the imparfait. Afterwards, students took a look at chapter 4, the formation and uses of the plus-que-parfait. Students ended class working in pairs to complete an activity in which they had to figure out which of these three past tenses were to be used in context. Students received two worksheets for homework. Again, these focused on the three past tenses discussed in class.

Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

There was no phrase of the day today.

Students started watching the first part of the movie Chac. Students will continue watching tomorrow and Wednesday. The test will take place on Thursday.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

Students took their test on Reprise today. They were asked to start looking at the vocabulary for chapter 1 for tomorrow's class.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Students completed "Practice" workbook page 97, determining the difference between preterite and imperfect. Students will complete text, page 248, activity 12 for tomorrow's class. They will add / create 4 of their own questions to add to the 6 already in the book.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: de bon goût

Students began looking at chapter 3, the formation and use of the imparfait. Students worked in pairs to complete Activity E from the chapter, differentiating between the use of the passé composé and the imparfait. All answers were gone over on the board. Students also got back their quizzes from the end of last week.

Students will study the two above-names tenses for a possible quiz tomorrow.
