Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT
Students received the poem "Le Corbeau et le Renard". Students read the poem and wrote a paragraph explaining the meaning of it in English. Students then, using colored pencils and markers, illustrated their interpretation of the poem.
Phrase of the day: a solas
Students began writing on a topic in which they had to present and defend an opinion to the editor of a paper. Students completed their rough drafts in class and will complete the task tomorrow with peer editing as well as their final draft. Here is the topic at hand:
Tú eres un(a) lector(a) de un periódico local. Habrá un discurso de un político radical en tu esceual. El periódico ha publicado un adelanto del discurso en un artículo. Escribe una carta al editor explicándole que: a) el discurso ofende y b) el político no debe dar el discurso. Da una razón y explica tus sentimientos.

Period 5 - Spanish 3
Students began class with a warm up on the board...using the irregular preterite tense. Students then completed "Practice" workbook page 104, by completing a short story using vocabulary from chapter 5B. Students then received a brief introduction about the imperfect progressive, and completed text, page 277, activity 18 (orally). Students will continue with their study of the past tense tomorrow.
Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT
Phrase of the day: avoir lieu / un lieu de culte
Students received a brief packet today on Léopold Sédar Senghor and the négritude movement. Students read about his life and accomplishments, including his rise to political power and eventually his election to president of the republic. Students read the national anthem of Sénégal and we briefly discussed its various elements. We briefly discussed about aspects of life in Sénégal, including Gorée Island, Dakar, and baobob trees. For homework, students are to read the poem Femme noire and to answer the questions that follow.

Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT
Today's phrase of the day was...estar en el crepúsculo.
Students did two review activities today. After, they took a quiz on the role of the subjunctive.
Periods 2 and 3 - French 2
Students took their lesson 2 quiz today.
Period 5 - Spanish 3
Students handed in and went over the homework assignment for today. Students then orally discussed the irregular preterite in a narration from text, page 275, activity #13. After, students took a quiz on lesson 5B.
Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT
Phrase of the day: faire le plein
Students opened class with an "on-the-screen" introduction / review of the subjunctive in certain contexts. Students were asked to take the given sentence starters and finish the sentence with something logical. Students then took a quiz on the role of the subjunctive in a variety of contexts.

Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT
Phrase of the day: llevarse bien/mal con
Students warmed up with a present / past subjunctive activity. Students were then encouraged to ask questions regarding the different adverbial conjunctions and how they function in the context of the subjunctive. Students ended with a discussion of the uses of the indicative and the subjunctive. There will be a quiz tomorrow.
Periods 2 and 3 - French 2
Students started with a worksheet from lesson 2 addressing the agreement of adjectives with their subjects. Students completed a number of activities in the workbook packets, pages 17, 19, 20 and 22. Students ended class with a "rapid fire" oral activity testing their knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar from lesson 2.
Period 5 - Spanish 3
Students began class with a warm up taken from the ancillary practice workbook quizzing them on their knowledge of the irregular preterite stems. Students spent the rest of the class in groups of 2, completing text, page 274, activity 12, parts 1 and 2. Students will complete part 3 of this same activity for class tomorrow. Students should expect a quiz in the very near future.
Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT
Phrase of the day: noyer le poisson
Students began class with a worksheet using the past subjunctive. These responses were gone over on the board. Students then participated in a "verb round-table". While sitting in a small circle, students were given a verb and tense. Each member of the class then had to conjugate the verb in that tense until the verb was fully conjugated. There will be a quiz on the uses of the subjunctive tomorrow.

Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT
Phrase of the day: de mal en peor
Today, students received an introduction to adverbial clauses and the subjunctive. We used the textbook to get students thinking about the role of certain conjunctions, using both the subjunctive and indicative. We concluded class by orally discussing text pages 194-195. Students were encouraged to study all of the conjunctions presented in class today.
Periods 2 and 3 - French 2
The quiz originally scheduled for tomorrow will now be on Wednesday. Students watched the Video scène for lesson 2 today. They also completed the video packet activities distributed in class. Some of these were collected and graded. Students also received a homework worksheet testing their knowledge on the rules of adjective agreement for masculine and feminine. These worksheets are for tomorrow's class.
Period 5 - Spanish 3
Students warmed up today with a review activity from chapter 5A, asking students to recall and produce chapter 5A vocabulary. Students completed "Writing Audio Video" workbook pages 102 and 103, again testing their knowledge of the 5B vocabulary. All answers were gone over on the board. Students ended class by completing an "Exit pass" once again testing their knowledge of the preterite tense.
Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT
Phrase of the day: s'attendre à ce que + infinitive
Students were asked to continue studying the uses of the present and past subjunctive, conjunctions of time, cause and objective for tomorrow's class. Students will also continue to study the use of the ne pléonastique.
