Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: vivir a sueldo

We discussed the role of the Monroe Doctrine and how it relates to Latin American political development. We discussed if this political legislation was a good or a bad thing for newly-independent Latin American nations in the 1800s. Students will finish reading the book by Monday.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

We spent the entire class period going through a variety of review activities for the quiz on lesson 5 on Monday. These activities were all part of the workbook.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Students watched episode #2 of La Catrina. They will complete the last page of activities for homework. Students have a quiz on chapter 6A on Monday.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: rompre avec quelqu'un

Students completed the relative pronoun unit by honing their understanding of the use of the word CE and how it is used in conjunction with the other pronouns. Students received a variety of worksheets practicing all of the relative pronouns learned this week. There will be a quiz on Monday.

Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: ganarse la vida

Students discussed the portion of the novel they read for today. We discussed a variety of symbols and ended class with the opening of our discussion of 1823, and what this means. Students will read up to 143 for tomorrow.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

Students started class with an opening crossword puzzle. This was gone over. Students then reviewed all the vocabulary from chapter 5 by using transparencies. Students also were asked to identify 10 things shown on two particular transparencies. This was handed in. Students completed class by orally discussing activity 4 at the end of the chapter.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Students opened class with a quick vocabulary review on a two-sided worksheet. Students then paired up into groups of 2 and worked to complete a 3-page packet reinforcing the use of the -IR verbs with stem-changes in the preterite. Students will continue studying for next class.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: Tu me manques.

Students went over activities E and F from the textbook, using the relative pronouns LEQUEL and OÙ. Students then paired up to work on a worksheet, joining two sentences and choosing the most appropriate and logical relative pronoun. These responses were gone over. Students received a worksheet on the use of the word CE to end class. Students were told to expect a quiz on Monday.

Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: de hoy en adelante

Students reviewed what they read in Márquez last night, up to page 115. They had about 15 minutes to end class for silent reading. They will read up to page 131 for tomorrow's class.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

Students had more practice today using the Paris métro, by doing another activity using the metro map in the textbook. Students also took a look at the Paris metro system on the web. This was projected on the screen in the front of the room. Students also completed workbook, page 50, activity A/2.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Students once again worked on describing how we feel by using the expressions taken from chapter 6A. Students began class by completing some vocabulary / photo ID activities.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: Les choses tournent au vinaigre.

Students went over their homework worksheet practicing the uses of QUI and the different forms of LEQUEL. Students orally completed activities C and D from the text, pages 387-388. Students will complete activities E and F for tomorrow's class.

Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: en la otra cara de la moneda (medalla)

Students talked more about Márquez today and how his writings have helped to shape the literary world. Students got an introduction to the idea of "magical realism" and how Márquez used this technique to enrich his writing. Students will read up to 114 for tomorrow.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

Students read pages 104-105 in class today, and we focused on how to travel through Paris on the métro. Students received an activity sheet using new vocabulary about the métro. Students received all the answers to the metro matching activity and will study this new vocabulary for tomorrow as well as continuing to study the vocabulary from chapter 5, fun/leisure activities.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Students started off class by completing text, page 298, activity 5. All answers were gone over. Students then listened to "Writing Audio Video" workbook, page 109, activities 5 and 6. Students ended class by having an informal conversation with a classmate, using text, page 300 activity 9 as the guide. Today's warm up and conclusion activity were collected at the end of class.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: être dans le pétrin

Students received a warm up today, a two-sided worksheet using the pronouns QUI and QUE. These were gone over in class. Students ended class with a quiz using these same pronouns. Students will again study to page 387 for tomorrow.

Period 1 - Spanish 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: llevar ___ años -ando/-iendo

Students got their Márquez books today. We read a little into the political development of Colombia. Students will read pages 21-25 of Márquez's biography.

Periods 2 and 3 - French 2

Students got their tests back and these were gone over. Students read pages 100-103, and orally discussed page 103, activities 1 and 2.

Period 5 - Spanish 3

Students received a formal introduction to chapter 6A. We reviewed preterite and the 7-column chard given out at the beginning of the year. Students completed a worksheet asking students to complete the sentences with the preterite. Students were asked to study chapter 6A vocabulary.

Period 6 - French 5 AP/GT

Phrase of the day: faire chou blanc

Students learned about and reviewed the uses of QUI, QUE and DONT today. Students were asked to read 83-87 in the textbook.
